Symphony of Words in Color

Mildred Howard, artist

“Never in my lifetime would I have believed that we would have a person of color in the White House. Not only a person of color, but someone who is brilliant, thoughtful and actually cares about those of us who have been overlooked.

Mildred Howard has exhibited internationally and her installations have been mounted at Creative Time in New York City, in SITE in San Diego, at the National Museum of Women in the Arts and at the New Museum in New York City.

Howard’s commissions have been included at the San Jose Museum of Art, the San Francisco Arts Commission and the San Francisco International Airport.

Her numerous awards include an Anonymous Was a Woman Fellowship, the Joan Mitchell Fellowship, the Reader’s Digest Traveling Fellowship, two Rockefeller Artists Fellowships and an NEA Grant in Sculpture.
