Portrait of Progress in Word and Deed
“Portrait of Progress in Word and Deed pays homage to individuals who were at the forefront of landmark legislative acts that eventually led to a more equal and just society. When the trickle of protests swelled and cascaded into a torrent of social changes, affecting every sector in this country, the constancy of their push for progress ultimately enabled the election of President Barack Obama”
Phoebe Beasley has twice received the coveted Presidential Seal for her artwork of the Inaugurations of President George H. W. Bush and President Bill Clinton.
In her 40-plus year career, Beasley’s work has been collected at the California African American Museum, the New York City Library and by Dr. Maya Angelou, Samuel L. Jackson, Oprah Winfrey and Johnson Publishing Company.
